Spider Venoms - Genus Grammostola

Family Theraphosidae (tarantulas)

Stub -- Under construction

The taxonomy of the genus has been changing and it may take a bit longer before it settles completely.

Whatever the names and species, subspecies or simply populations status, we have had numerous confirmations that venoms from different regions are different.

For the moment, we are using the following names:

Grammostola rosae (brown morph)

This the common Chilean brown tarantula from Central Chile, which has also been called Grammostola spatulata in the literature and is being called Grammostola porteri now by some in Chile.

Hanatoxins, GsMTx4 and grammotoxin were discovered from the venom of this variety.

Grammostola rosae (red morph)

Chilean Red or Flame tarantulas are from Southern Chile and tend to have longer hairs and more red than the browns. These were the source of the phrixotoxins, so named because we initially sold their venom under the name Phrixotrichus auratus, which was wrong.
