Acanthoscurria juruenicola is a
large terrestrial tarantula from Brazil, which has become established in the pet
trade and is available, occasionally, from breeders.
Very little has been published about the venom of this spider. A defensin (gomesin) from a related tarantula (Acanthoscurria gomsiana) has been characterized fairly extensively and was found to be effective against a murine melanoma.
Availability
Please inquire. Spider Pharm usually has a few of these spiders for the production of samples and may be able to produce larger quantities of venom. Exports from Brazil are restricted, but it may possible to obtain juveniles from other breeders and at least one supplier claims to be able to get this species from Peru.
Related species: Acanthoscurria musculosa
